Elucidator’s Note
I thank Lord Sri Rama and Lord Hanuman for blessing me with the opportunity to elucidate this most powerful Sri Ramashtakam in English. I thank my parents for giving me birth and introducing me to this wonderful culture and rich heritage of Bharat. I especially thank my mother for helping me proof read this work. I thank my wife to encourage me to start my Adyatmika journey to learn more and practise Hindu culture. I also thank Sri Chaganti Koteshwara Rao Garu and Sri Nanduri Srinivas Garu for their preachings and inspiration to direct me in this spiritual path. I consider them my gurus in absentia.
Sri Ramashtakam is a powerful divine hymn that needs to be accessible and comprehensible for everyone and most importantly the younger generations of this great nation who are living far away in the foreign land and for those who do not have the luxury of understanding our mother tongue.
In this work, I have tried my best to elucidate the meaning of each shloka with the blessings of Lord Sri Rama and Lord Hanuman. I have presented the each and every shloka in Sanskrit, Telugu and English in pink, blue and red colour text respectively along with the meaning in English and Telugu.
I have tried to explain the meaning with the best of my efforts in English and Telugu while trying to retain the true essence of this mantra except for the beauty and harmony of words in Sanskrit due to the technical difficulties in translating to English and Telugu. I recommend to recite this mantra in Sanskrit to experience the bliss of the mantra.

Introduction
Sri Ramashtakam is an octet hymn that is authored by Sage Vyasa in the praise of Lord Sri Rama. This prayer does not indulge much on the physical description of Lord Sri Rama but focuses more on his persona and characteristic establishing him as an divine entity and the embodiment of the universe itself that possess neither physical form nor a single name to it. It concentrates on the fact that Lord Sri Rama teaches us that physical body is granted to the soul as an instrument for spiritual progress to escape the cycle of life and death and attain moksha / liberation. It also reveals that Lord Sri Rama is the ultimate reality of supreme consciousness in human form. It concludes on a note that the devotion / bhakthi to Lord Sri Rama grants both worldly well being and ultimate liberation to a sincere devotee.
भजे विशेषसुन्दरं समस्तपापखण्डनम् ।
स्वभक्तचित्तरञ्जनं सदैव राममद्वयम् ॥ १॥
భజే విశేషసుందరం సమస్త పాపఖండనమ్ I

Meaning :
I always pray to Lord Sri Rama and indulge in his worship who is second to none. Lord Sri Ramachandra is the most handsome of all and the beautiful sight to behold. He is the destroyer of all the sins and Lord Sri Rama is the one who blesses his devotees with happiness and peace of mind.
శ్రీ రామచంద్రులు వారు ప్రపంచములో అందరికంటే అత్యంత సుందరమైన మూర్తి. అన్ని పాపములను హరించు శ్రీ హరి. భక్తుల మనోఉల్లాసము మరియు సంతోషాలను ప్రసాదించి స్వామి. అట్టి శ్రీ రాముడిని నేను భజించి అయన సేవలో మునిగిఉండేదను

जटाकलापशोभितं समस्तपापनाशकम् ।
स्वभक्तभीतिभङ्जनं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ २॥
జటాకలాప శోభితం సమస్త పాప నాశకం
స్వభక్త భీతి భంజనం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౨ II
Jataakalapa Sobhitham Samastha Papanasakam I
Swabhaktha Bheethi Banjanam Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 2 II
Meaning:
I hail Lord Sri Rama with love, the one with glowing brilliance adorned with matted hair. I worship the one who removes sins and destroys his devotee’s fears.
ఎల్లప్పుడూ దివ్యతేజస్సుతో జటలు కట్టిన జుట్టుతో ఉండే శ్రీ రామచంద్రులు వారిని స్మరించెదను. సకల పాపములను మరియు భక్తుల భయములను తొలగించే శ్రీ రామచంద్రుని దివ్య నామమును భజించెదను
Shloka 3:
निजस्वरूपबोधकं कृपाकरं भवापहम् ।
समं शिवं निरञ्जनं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ३॥
నిజస్వరూప బోధకం కృపాకరం భావాపహం I
సమం శివం నిరంజనం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౩ II
Nijaswarupa Bodhakam Krupakaram Bhavapaham I
Samam Shivam Niranjanam Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 3 II
Meaning:
I hail Lord Sri Rama with devotion, the one who is the revealer of one’s true or inner self, the one who is graceful, the one who is the destroyer of the cycle of birth and death by granting moksha or salvation to his devotees. He is the one who is impartial, pure, divine, stainless and the one who is untouched by illusion or maya.
మన నిజమైన వ్యక్తిత్వము మనకు బోధ చేసెడి దయగల స్వామి శ్రీ రామచంద్రమూర్తి. అయన మనకు ముక్తి ప్రసాదించెడి స్వామి. అందరినీ నిస్పక్షపాతముగా స్వాచ్చ్చమైన చల్లటి చూపులు తో దీవించెడి స్వామి శ్రీ రామచంద్రుడు. మాయ భ్రమకు అతీతుడైన శ్రీ రాముడిని నేను భజించెదను

सहप्रपञ्चकल्पितं ह्यनामरूपवास्तवम् ।
निराकृतिं निरामयं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ४॥
సహా ప్రపంచకల్పితం హ్యనామరూప వాస్తవం I
నిరాకృతిం నిరామయం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౪ II
Saha Prapanchakalpitam Hyanamaroopa Vasthavam I
Nirakruthim Niramayam Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 4 II
Meaning:
I worship Lord Sri Rama with devotion who is the Brahman in whom the entire universe always resides. He is the ultimate nameless and formless reality and who is utterly pure and unblemished one with countless divine forms who is untouched by maya.
సమైక్య బ్రహ్మము నివాసము ఉండెడి, ఏ నామము మరియు ఆకారానికి అతీతమైన నిర్కాలుషిత స్వచ్ఛమైన భగవంతుడు మరియు అనేక దివ్యమైన స్వరూపములు గలిగిన శ్రీ రామచంద్రమూర్తిని నేను ప్రేమతో భజించెదను

निष्प्रपञ्चनिर्विकल्पनिर्मलं निरामयम्॥
चिदेकरूपसन्ततं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ५॥

చిదేకరూప సంతతం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౫ II
Nishprapancha Nirvikalpa Nirmalam Niramayam I
Chedekaroopa Santhatham Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 5 II
Meaning:
I worship Lord Sri Rama the supreme reality who is beyond the universe, who is immune against differentiating between every living beings and non living beings alike, the purest and peaceful one free from blemishes. Lord Sri Rama is the continuous stream of single form of consciousness or the Brahmam. I indulge in that supreme entity who is none other than Lord Sri Rama
యావత్ ప్రపంచానికే అంతు చిక్కనివాడు, సకల జీవ మరియు నిర్జీవ రాసుల మధ్య బేధము ఎరగనివాడు, స్వచ్ఛమైనవాడు, ఎటువంటి మచ్చలేనివాడు, తానే బ్రహ్మముగా ఉద్ధరించెడివాడు, అట్టి శ్రీ రామచంద్రుని సేవలో మునిగిఉండేదను

भवाब्धिपोतरूपकं ह्यशेषदेहकल्पितम् ।
गुणाकरं कृपाकरं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ६॥
భవాబ్ధిపోతరూపకం హ్యశేషదేహకల్పితం I
గుణకారం కృపాకరం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౬ II
Bhavabdhipotharoopakam Hyaseshadehakalpitham I
Gunakaram Krupakaram Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 6 II
Meaning:
I worship Lord Sri Rama with devotion, the one who helps the devotees to cross the vast ocean of worldly existence / samsara like a boat, the one who is the embodiment of the universe in its entirety, the one with all the good qualities and mercy. I indulge in serving that supreme entity Lord Sri Rama.
మనుష్యులను భవసాగరము వంటి సంసారము దాటించేడివంటి నావ ఆ శ్రీ రామచంద్రుడు. సమస్త బ్రహ్మాండము తానే అయి నిలుచున్నవాడు, సకల సద్గుణములు మరియు దయ కలవాడు. అటువంటి శ్రీ రామచంద్రుణ్ణి నేను భజించుచు ఉండెద

महासुवाक्यबोधकैर्विराजमनवाक्पदैः ।
परब्रह्म व्यापकं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ७॥
మహాసువాఖ్య బోధకైర్విరాజమాన వాక్పదై: I
పరం చ బ్రహ్మ వ్యాపకం భజే హ రామమద్వయం II ౭ II
Mahasuvakhya Bodhakair Virajamana Vakhpadai Hi I
Param Cha Brahma Vyapakam Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 7 II
Meaning:
I worship Lord Sri Rama whose teachings are adorned with brilliant words and are deeply enriched with profound truth. I indulge myself in Lord Sri Rama who is omnipresent and the ultimate universal consciousness / Brahmam.
తేజోమన్వితమైన జీవితసత్యములను బోధించు గురువు జగమంతట వ్యాపించి బ్రహ్మముగా ఉన్న శ్రీ రామచంద్రుడిని నేను భజించెదను

शिवप्रदं सुखप्रदं भवच्छिदं भ्रमापहम् ।
विराजमानदैशिकं भजे ह राममद्वयम् ॥ ८॥
శివప్రదం సుఖప్రదం భవచ్చిదం భ్రమాపహం I
విరాజమాన దేశికం భజే హా రామమద్వయం II ౮ II
Sivapradham Sukhapradham Bhavachidham Brahmapaham I
Virajamana Desikam Bhaje Ha Ramamadvayam II 8 II
Meaning:
I worship Lord Sri Rama the pure consciousness, the one who blesses with happiness, the destroyer of worldly existence (cycle of life and death) and maya. I indulge in the worship of Lord Sri Rama the guru who enlightens his devotees
స్వచ్ఛమైన జ్ఞానము, సుఖ ప్రాధాయకుడు, జనన మరణాలు నుండి విముక్తి ప్రసాదించువాడు, మాయప భ్రమలను నశింపుజేయువాడు, జ్ఞానోదయము ప్రకాశింపచేసెడివాడు అట్టి శ్రీ రామచంద్రుని భజన లో నేను మునిగెద
रामाष्टकं पठति यः सुकरं सुपुण्यं
व्यासेन भाषितमिदं शृणुते मनुष्यः ।
विद्यां श्रियं विपुलसौख्यमनन्तकीर्तिं
सम्प्राप्य देहविलये लभते च मोक्षम् ॥
రామాష్టకం పటతి య: సుఖరo సుపుణ్యం,
వ్యాసేన భాషితమిధం శృణుతే మనుష్య: I
విద్యామ్ శ్రీయం విపులసౌఖ్యమనంత కీర్తిం,
సంప్రాప్య దేహవిలయే లభతే చ మోక్షం II
Ramashtakam Patathi Ya Sukharam Supunyam,
Vyasena Bhashithamidham Srunuthe Manushya Ha I
Vidyaam Sriyam Vipulasoukhyamanantha Keerthim,
Samprapya Dehavilaye Labathe Cha Moksham II
Meaning:
One who reads this auspicious Sri Ramashtakam will be bestowed with happiness and great merit / punyam (the result of doing good deeds). The humans who listen to Sri Ramashtakam written by Sage Vyasa will be blessed with knowledge, wealth, many comforts and fame in the society ultimately leading to moksha / liberation from the cycle of life and death at the end. The devotion / bhakthi to Lord Sri Rama grants both worldly well being and ultimate liberation to a sincere devotee
ఎవరైతే శ్రీ రామాష్టకం చదువుదురో, వారికి సకల సుఖములు మరియు పుణ్యము లభించును. శ్రీ రామాష్టకం విన్నవారికి సకల విద్యలు, సంపత్తులు, సౌఖ్యములు, కీర్తి మరియు జన్మ చివరన మోక్షము లభించెను
